U.S. Congressman Joe Wilson praised Prime Minister Masrour Barzani for his role in advancing the SDF–Damascus agreement. Moreover, he expressed gratitude for the Kurdistan Regional Government’s diplomatic engagement in supporting dialogue between Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharra and SDF Commander-in-Chief Mazloum Abdi.
Joe Wilson emphasized that the SDF–Damascus agreement represents a meaningful step toward long-term stability in Western Kurdistan. He noted that continued coordination between Kurdish leaders and Syrian authorities remains essential for lasting peace. In addition, he highlighted the importance of responsible leadership during sensitive political transitions.
Prime Minister Masrour Barzani consistently supported dialogue over confrontation. Therefore, regional actors viewed his efforts as constructive and forward-looking. Wilson acknowledged that the Kurdistan Region played a stabilizing role during critical negotiations. He also stressed that inclusive agreements strengthen security and prevent renewed conflict.
Furthermore, Wilson underlined the importance of protecting the rights of all communities in Syria. He stated that any political settlement must guarantee representation and constitutional safeguards.
