President Nechirvan Barzani Meets US Envoy Tom Barrack, Reaffirms Kurdistan’s Role in Regional Stability

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – The Nechirvan Barzani Tom Barrack meeting on Monday focused on regional stability, US relations, and political developments in Iraq and Syria.

President Nechirvan Barzani received Tom Barrack, US Ambassador to Turkey and Special Envoy for Syria, in Erbil on Feb. 23, 2026. Joshua Harris, Chargé d’Affaires of the US Embassy in Iraq, also attended the talks.

According to a statement from the Kurdistan Region Presidency, both sides discussed US relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. They also reviewed recent developments in Syria and the political process in both Baghdad and Erbil.

The visiting delegation expressed appreciation for President Barzani’s diplomatic efforts to promote stability. They praised his role in easing tensions in the region. In particular, they highlighted his efforts to support dialogue and facilitate understandings between Damascus and the Syrian Democratic Forces.
