Kurdistan Presidency Condemns UAE Consulate Attack in Erbil, Urges Baghdad to Act

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – The Kurdistan Region Presidency has strongly condemned the drone attack that targeted the United Arab Emirates Consulate in Erbil, calling on the Iraqi federal government to take action and ensure the protection of diplomatic missions.

In a statement, the presidency described the attack as a dangerous act that threatens security and stability in the Kurdistan Region. It stressed that diplomatic missions must be protected in accordance with international law.

According to the statement, two security guards at the consulate were injured during the attack. Authorities confirmed that the injuries were not life-threatening.

The Kurdistan Region Presidency expressed solidarity with the United Arab Emirates and wished a speedy recovery to the injured personnel. It also reiterated the region’s commitment to safeguarding diplomatic facilities operating in Erbil.

In addition, The statement urged the Iraqi government to take serious steps to prevent such incidents from happening again. It called on Baghdad to hold those responsible accountable and ensure that diplomatic missions are properly protected.

Officials also warned that attacks on diplomatic facilities undermine stability and damage Iraq’s international relations. They stressed that protecting foreign missions is a legal obligation of the state.

The presidency concluded by reaffirming its support for continued cooperation between the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and international partners to maintain security and stability in the region.
