KRG Oil Ministry Blames Armed Groups for Shutting Down Production, Rejects Baghdad’s Accusations

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – The KRG Ministry of Natural Resources said attacks by armed groups on energy infrastructure forced the suspension of oil production and exports in the Kurdistan Region.

In a statement, the ministry rejected accusations made by Iraq’s Federal Ministry of Oil. Baghdad had suggested that the halt in production was the result of decisions by the Kurdistan Regional Government.

The KRG ministry said the shutdown was a direct result of repeated attacks targeting oil facilities and infrastructure. Officials warned that the security situation made it impossible to maintain normal operations.

According to the statement, protecting energy infrastructure is essential for maintaining production and exports. The ministry stressed that continued attacks threaten not only the Kurdistan Region’s energy sector but also Iraq’s overall economic stability.

The ministry also called for constructive dialogue between Erbil and Baghdad to address the current situation. Officials said cooperation between the two governments is necessary to resolve disputes and restore normal operations.

KRG authorities emphasized that the Kurdistan Region remains committed to working with the federal government to find solutions that benefit both sides.

The statement comes amid rising tensions over energy policy and security concerns affecting oil infrastructure in northern Iraq. Officials say ensuring the safety of production facilities will be key to restoring oil output and exports.
