Kurdistan Region Reopens More Border Crossings with Iran

SULAIMANI, Kurdistan Region – Several border crossings between the Kurdistan Region and Iran are reopening, restoring commercial and tourist movement after recent closures linked to regional tensions.

Officials confirmed that crossings such as Parwezkhan and Haji Omeran have already resumed operations. Authorities have also decided to keep the Bashmakh crossing open to ensure continued movement between both sides.

On Monday evening, officials at the Sayranban crossing announced that it has reopened for both tourists and commercial travelers. The crossing is now operating under its regular schedule, from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., except on Fridays and official holidays in Iran.

Meanwhile, authorities in the Garmiyan administration confirmed that the Pshte crossing has also reopened, allowing trade activity to return to normal.

Another key crossing, Kele, is expected to resume operations soon. Local officials said Iranian authorities have informed them that reopening procedures are underway. However, no trucks have crossed yet, possibly due to security measures on the Iranian side.

In Halabja province, the Shushmi crossing is open for both trade and tourism. Officials said it was briefly closed at the start of the conflict but reopened shortly after.

Most crossings were shut following the escalation of tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran late last month. During that time, Bashmakh remained the only operational route.

The reopening process began earlier this month. Parwezkhan resumed operations on March 11, followed by Haji Omeran on March 15. Authorities now expect border activity to return fully to normal in the coming days as the situation stabilizes.
