ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Politburo has condemned an attack targeting the residence of President Nechirvan Barzani in Duhok, calling for urgent action to protect the Kurdistan Region’s security.
In a statement, the Politburo described the attack as a dangerous escalation. It stressed that such acts threaten stability and undermine public safety. Moreover, the KDP urged the Iraqi federal government to take responsibility. It called on Baghdad to act swiftly to prevent further incidents and ensure accountability.
At the same time, the Politburo appealed to the international community. It emphasized that global partners must support efforts to safeguard the Kurdistan Region and maintain stability. The statement also highlighted the importance of protecting key institutions. It warned that targeting leadership figures represents a serious violation of security norms.
In addition, the KDP reaffirmed its support for the Kurdistan Region’s leadership. It stressed that such attacks will not weaken the region’s resolve. Furthermore, the Politburo called for unity among Kurdish political forces. It said cooperation remains essential during a period of heightened tensions.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. Meanwhile, security forces have increased their presence in sensitive areas to prevent further threats. The attack has raised concerns among officials and observers. Therefore, leaders have called for stronger coordination between security agencies.
The KDP also urged citizens to remain vigilant. It encouraged cooperation with authorities to help maintain safety. The Politburo reaffirmed its commitment to stability.
