ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Abduljabbar Aziz Hassan, head of the Kurdistan Region’s Judicial Council, has strongly condemned the drone attack targeting the residence of President Nechirvan Barzani.
In a statement, Hassan described the attack as an act aimed not only at the president but at all people of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. He warned that such actions seek to undermine security, stability, and ongoing development in the region.
Moreover, he stressed that the Kurdistan Region is not part of the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. Instead, he said it plays a key role in promoting peace and stability.
Hassan also highlighted President Barzani’s role in strengthening peace and security. He noted that various Iraqi and regional parties recognize these efforts. In addition, he called on relevant authorities to act quickly. He urged them to fulfill their responsibilities and identify those responsible for the attack.
Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of accountability. He said perpetrators must be brought before the courts and punished according to the law. At the same time, the statement underlined the broader implications of the attack. It warned that such incidents threaten not only the Kurdistan Region but Iraq as a whole.
The drone strike took place on Saturday, March 28, 2026, in Duhok. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, as no one was present at the residence at the time. Hassan reiterated the judiciary’s commitment to upholding justice. He stressed that swift legal action is essential to maintaining public trust and ensuring long-term stability.
