Kurdistan Region Sends New Group of Thalassemia Patients Abroad for Treatment

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Under the directives of Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has sent another group of thalassemia patients abroad for advanced medical treatment.

On April 4, authorities dispatched 28 patients for bone marrow transplants. This marks the fifth convoy organized under the government’s ongoing healthcare initiative. Moreover, the KRG is covering all treatment-related expenses. Officials allocated a budget of 11 billion Iraqi dinars to support the program.

In addition, the initiative aims to provide life-saving care for patients who require specialized treatment not widely available locally. Bone marrow transplants are considered a critical option for individuals suffering from Thalassemia.

Furthermore, officials confirmed that 220 patients have already received treatment through earlier convoys. This reflects the program’s expanding reach and continued commitment. At the same time, preparations are underway for a sixth group. Authorities said the next convoy will depart soon as part of the same effort.

Meanwhile, the program highlights the government’s focus on improving healthcare services. It also demonstrates ongoing support for vulnerable patients and their families. Additionally, officials emphasized that ensuring access to advanced treatment remains a priority. They noted that international cooperation plays a key role in the initiative’s success.

The KRG continues to invest in healthcare solutions for serious conditions. The latest convoy underscores efforts to provide hope and treatment for thalassemia patients across the Kurdistan Region.
