Kurdistan Region Power Outage Resolved After Grid Glitch, Gas Supply Challenges Remain

A widespread power outage affected the Kurdistan Regional on Tuesday afternoon. Authorities say the issue has now been largely resolved.

The Ministry of Electricity of the Kurdistan Regional Government announced that the outage occurred at 12:40 p.m. due to a technical problem in the power grid. As a result, electricity was cut across the region.

Response teams acted quickly. Control units, along with production and transmission teams, worked to fix the issue. Within three hours, they managed to restore the system and bring power back to most areas.

Meanwhile, officials reported another challenge. Electricity production has decreased due to reduced gas supply from the Kormor field. This shortage has affected power generation levels.

The Ministry of Natural Resources is now involved. It is working to resolve the gas supply issue as soon as possible. Restoring full fuel flow is seen as key to stabilizing electricity output.

Authorities stressed that technical teams remain on alert. They aim to prevent further disruptions and ensure a stable power supply. Continuous monitoring of the grid is ongoing.

Although the outage was temporary, it highlighted the system’s sensitivity to both technical failures and fuel supply issues. Even so, the quick response helped limit the impact.

The situation is improving. Power has been restored, but production remains slightly reduced. Officials say efforts will continue until the system returns to full capacity and stability is fully secured.
