Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani has stressed that diplomacy remains the only path to resolve tensions between the United States and Iran. His remarks came during an interview with Corriere della Sera.
In the interview, Nechirvan Barzani clearly stated that there is no military solution to the crisis. He emphasized that all sides must work to strengthen the current ceasefire. He described the truce as an important step, but also warned that it remains fragile.
Nechirvan Barzani called for patience and dialogue. He said negotiations are the only effective way to resolve disputes. He also noted differences in approach between the two sides. According to him, Iranian officials focus on details, while U.S. officials often seek faster outcomes.
At the same time, he warned that ongoing regional conflicts could undermine the ceasefire. In particular, he criticized continued military actions in neighboring areas. He said such actions risk escalating tensions and weakening efforts toward de-escalation.
President Nechirvan Barzani made clear that the Kurdistan Region will not be part of the conflict. He stressed that Kurdish territory should not be used for military operations against neighboring countries. Instead, he reiterated a commitment to neutrality and stability.
In addition, the president highlighted the broader impact of the crisis. He explained that military escalation cannot bring lasting change inside Iran. Instead, he argued that political solutions are required to address underlying issues.
Barzani urged all parties to build on the ceasefire. He said sustained diplomatic efforts are essential. Without them, he warned, the region could face renewed instability.
