Masoud Barzani Warns Political Deadlock Threatens Stability in Kurdistan Region

Erbil, Kurdistan Region – President Masoud Barzani criticized ongoing political divisions that continue to delay the selection of a president and prime minister. He warned that the deadlock threatens stability and weakens governance.

In a statement shared on social media, Kurdistan President Barzani pointed to disagreements within the Coordination Framework. He explained that some factions push forward with holding a presidential vote. However, other groups continue to delay agreement on choosing a prime minister.

As a result, the political process has stalled. President Barzani stressed that this situation creates uncertainty and undermines public confidence. Moreover, he warned that continued delays could deepen instability.

He urged political leaders to prioritize national interests over partisan disputes. He emphasized that cooperation and dialogue remain essential during this critical period. Furthermore, he called on all sides to respect constitutional processes and move forward with leadership selection.

President Barzani also highlighted the broader impact of the deadlock. He noted that prolonged political paralysis can affect economic conditions and security stability. Therefore, he stressed the urgency of reaching an agreement without further delay.

Observers said the dispute reflects deeper divisions among major political factions. They noted that competing interests continue to complicate negotiations. Consequently, forming a stable government remains a significant challenge.

Analysts also warned that delays could affect regional relations. They explained that stable leadership strengthens international partnerships and supports economic growth. In addition, they stressed that political clarity encourages investment and development.
