President Nechirvan Barzani received Ali al-Zaidi late Saturday in Erbil, as part of ongoing efforts to form Iraq’s next federal government and advance the political process.
Al-Zaidi arrived with a delegation from the Coordination Framework. During the meeting, both sides focused on forming a new cabinet that represents all components of Iraq. They stressed the need for stronger dialogue among political forces.
They also discussed relations between Erbil and Baghdad. In addition, both sides explored ways to resolve outstanding issues through the constitution and existing laws.
President Nechirvan Barzani highlighted the importance of cooperation to ensure stability and progress. He emphasized that dialogue remains the best path to address long-standing disputes.
Al-Zaidi underlined the need for coordination between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government. He said stronger cooperation will support stability, development and national unity.
He also reiterated that a strong Kurdistan Region contributes to a strong Iraq. Therefore, he confirmed his commitment to fair and constructive engagement with Erbil.
Earlier in the day, al-Zaidi met with Masoud Barzani and Masrour Barzani. These meetings aimed to build consensus on key political and economic issues.
Officials say the talks reflect continued coordination between Erbil and Baghdad. As a result, leaders hope to move closer to forming a new government and resolving disputes.
Observers note that this round of meetings marks a critical phase in Iraq’s political transition. Consequently, sustained dialogue will play a key role in shaping the next government.
