President Nechirvan Barzani met with Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani in Baghdad on Monday, emphasizing political partnership and stability as Iraq moves toward forming a new federal government.
According to a statement from the Kurdistan Region Presidency, the meeting focused on Iraq’s political process and the steps needed to form the next cabinet. Both leaders stressed the importance of building the government on partnership among all Iraqi communities. They said such an approach will strengthen stability and promote understanding among political forces.
President Nechirvan Barzani reviewed recent initiatives by the federal government. He also commended Prime Minister Al-Sudani’s role and highlighted the need to build on existing agreements between Erbil and Baghdad. Therefore, both sides stressed resolving outstanding issues through continued coordination.
In addition, the talks addressed regional developments. The two leaders underlined the importance of protecting Iraq from rising tensions and the wider impact of conflicts. They also emphasized safeguarding national sovereignty and public interests.
Earlier the same day, President Barzani met with leaders of the Coordination Framework. These discussions also focused on government formation and key national challenges. Both sides called for stronger political cooperation to move the process forward.
They further stressed resolving disputes between Erbil and Baghdad through dialogue within the constitution. Moreover, they reaffirmed the importance of maintaining Iraq’s security, stability, and sovereignty.
President Barzani reiterated the Kurdistan Region’s support for the political process. He confirmed readiness to cooperate with all sides. Meanwhile, Coordination Framework leaders welcomed his visit and praised his role in promoting dialogue.
