PM Masrour Barzani on Thursday reaffirmed his support for reactivating the Kurdistan Parliament and accelerating efforts to form the Kurdistan Regional Government’s next cabinet.
The remarks came after the inauguration of the 40-meter dual-carriageway project in Soran on May 14, 2026.
During a press conference, PM Masrour Barzani stressed the importance of ensuring that state institutions continue functioning effectively and responsibly.
He stated that the Kurdistan Regional Government has consistently supported keeping government institutions and parliament active in order to address the concerns and expectations of the people of Kurdistan.
Barzani also emphasized that elections are held to allow citizens to place their trust in political parties, while political forces must then fulfill their responsibilities with accountability.
“We have supported the reactivation of parliament and the swift formation of the government from the very beginning,” Barzani said, adding that these steps serve both the people of Kurdistan and the political process itself.
Regarding relations with Baghdad, the Kurdistan Region’s prime minister highlighted the need to fully implement the Iraqi Constitution.
He called for protecting the rights of the people of Kurdistan and ensuring equal public services across all parts of Iraq.
Barzani also stressed the importance of establishing a clear and comprehensive program to resolve the ongoing disputes and challenges between Erbil and Baghdad.
The statement comes as political parties in the Kurdistan Region continue negotiations over the formation of the tenth cabinet, following months of discussions after the parliamentary elections.
Political leaders have repeatedly stressed the importance of restoring parliamentary sessions and strengthening institutional cooperation to address economic, political, and service-related challenges facing the Kurdistan Region.
