Kurdistan PM Masrour Barzani Launches Construction of Barzani Grand Mosque

Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani officially laid the foundation stone for a massive new religious complex in Erbil on Sunday. This ambitious initiative represents a historical necessity that will soon transform the cultural and spiritual landscape of the entire region. Consequently, the massive complex will serve as a prominent landmark reflecting the deep devotion and rich heritage of the Kurdish people.

The visionary concept for the Barzani Grand Mosque originated three years ago during early strategic planning sessions. Government leaders wanted to construct a monumental symbol that directly honors the regional history of justice and peaceful coexistence. Therefore, the architectural team designed the primary structures to embody the humanitarian spirit and resilience of citizens across Kurdistan.

The extensive complex transcends the traditional concept of a single house of worship for local residents. Specifically, the site will feature advanced educational facilities where future generations can study diverse theological sciences and history. Furthermore, the administration will welcome followers of all faiths by including dedicated spaces for different religious components.

Officials chose the name to honor the late national leader Mustafa Barzani and his enduring legacy. This naming decision also pays tribute to the historical values that the respected Sheikhs of the Barzan Order promoted. Accordingly, the institution will preserve their message of national reconciliation and deep patriotism for future generations.

In terms of total land area, the finished project will become the largest mosque in the entire world. The surrounding grounds will feature a massive public park with diverse trees and a large artificial lake. Furthermore, international engineering standards will guide every phase of construction to ensure maximum safety and environmental sustainability.

The unique architectural aesthetic draws direct inspiration from the traditional Kurdish tent, which locals call the Rashmall. Historically, these nomadic tents provided vital sanctuary for families during times of displacement, revolution, and intense political resistance. Thus, the distinctive design choices actively connect modern engineering with the historical struggles of the Kurdish people.

Local Kurdish minds and specialized engineers completely managed the intricate design process from the initial conceptual phase. Prime Minister Barzani praised the Ministry of Endowment and lead engineer Dr. Goran for their exceptional collaborative work. Consequently, construction crews will begin immediate work on the site to complete this historic public project efficiently.
