Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani Praises U.S. Democratic Values on Independence Anniversary

Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani congratulated U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday. He also extended warm wishes to the American people. The occasion marked the historic 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Barzani shared his congratulatory message through a post on the social media platform X.

He praised the founding principles of America. Furthermore, he described the nation as an enduring example of democratic governance. The Kurdish leader then highlighted a valuable lesson from American history. He noted that true liberty requires far more than sheer power. Instead, freedom demands a strong constitution, solid institutions, and a balanced federal system. It also requires the clear consent of free people.

Consequently, Barzani drew a direct parallel to the current political landscape in Iraq. He emphasized these same core principles for the future of his own nation. Baghdad and Erbil currently seek a stronger partnership with Washington. Therefore, these constitutional foundations remain absolutely vital for long-term success.

Barzani strongly asserted that Iraq’s future stability rests on specific commitments. The federal government must strictly adhere to the national constitution. Additionally, Iraq must respect the framework of federalism. The state must also protect the constitutional rights of the Kurdistan Region.

Meanwhile, the President expressed deep appreciation for Washington’s historic role. He reaffirmed the gratitude of the Kurdistan Region for America’s enduring friendship. He also praised American leadership and continued engagement in the Middle East.

Global leaders commemorated this major milestone alongside the American public, as the United States remains a vital international partner providing decades of military, political, humanitarian, and economic support to the Kurdistan Region. Specifically, Washington heavily backed the Kurdish Peshmerga against ISIS and continuously promotes peaceful dialogue between Baghdad and Erbil, because Barzani believes that constitutional respect ensures lasting stability for the entire country.
