President Barzani and German Envoy Discuss Bilateral Ties and Security Cooperation

Kurdistan Democratic Party President Masoud Barzani met with German Consul General Christian Oelfke on Saturday in Pirmam. The two officials discussed bilateral relations while addressing pressing security concerns and governance issues across northern Iraq.

Consul General Oelfke emphasized the important role regional authorities play in broader efforts to promote stability in the Middle East. The diplomat also expressed Germany’s continued interest in expanding cooperation in the economic and administrative sectors.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed ongoing security threats and examined joint strategies to counter militant and extremist networks. International security partnerships remain crucial as regional security forces confront evolving security challenges across Iraq.

The meeting also addressed domestic political and governance issues, including efforts to reactivate legislative institutions and form a new cabinet. Major political parties continue negotiations aimed at resolving institutional deadlocks and restoring normal parliamentary activity.

Germany maintains strong political, economic, and security partnerships with regional authorities through various advisory and cooperation programs. Diplomatic engagement between Berlin and the Kurdistan Region therefore plays an important role in supporting institutional development and democratic stability.

International observers emphasize that close cooperation between European partners and regional leaders can contribute to long-term peace and stability. Foreign investment also depends on a stable administrative environment and secure infrastructure across the region.

Looking ahead, regional political parties are expected to continue dialogue to finalize cabinet arrangements. Meanwhile, German officials are expected to expand technical assistance while maintaining their security cooperation with the Kurdistan Region.
