KRG Prepares 32 New Schools and 20 Million Textbooks Ahead of New Academic Year

Kurdistan Regional Government Education Minister Alan Hama Saeed outlined comprehensive academic preparations on Monday. Consequently, regional authorities have prepared 32 new school facilities and printed nearly 20 million updated textbooks across the region.

Minister Hama Saeed explained that thorough logistical preparations began in June to address infrastructure, supplies, and professional development. Furthermore, distribution networks have delivered 90 percent of the printed textbooks to regional municipal warehouses.

Logistics teams have also dispatched 264 supply containers to regional education offices to support overcrowded public classrooms. In addition, technicians have repaired thousands of damaged classroom desks in direct coordination with local charitable organizations.

To operate the 32 new school facilities efficiently, the ministry has formally requested kerosene supplies from central authorities. Therefore, securing fuel allocations will help ensure proper operating conditions as colder winter months approach.

Public school teachers will return to work on Tuesday, September 1, to begin intensive professional development. Specifically, educators will complete five to six days of specialized training focused on technology, artificial intelligence, and student engagement.

To reduce commuting burdens, administrators will allow rural teachers to attend mandatory training sessions at nearby facilities. Consequently, this arrangement will help teachers complete the required training efficiently before formal classes begin.

The ministry is also prioritizing vocational education to diversify career pathways for secondary school graduates. Incorporating technical education models will better prepare regional youth for the changing demands of the private-sector labor market.

Kurdish-language schools in Kirkuk continue to face severe infrastructure deficits, resource shortages, and overcrowding. Director Kamaran Ali revealed that more than 100 schools require immediate renovation across the province.

Thirty schools in Kirkuk operate three daily shifts to accommodate nearly 100,000 enrolled students. Despite these challenges, more than 1,200 students recently transferred from Arabic-language institutions to local Kurdish schools.

The KRG Education Ministry’s preparations for the new school year demonstrate its efforts to expand public education capacity. Moving forward, education officials will continue modernizing curricula while addressing persistent infrastructure challenges across the region.
