Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani met with UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Tuesday in Abu Dhabi. The two leaders discussed escalating security challenges and strategic economic cooperation.
UAE Vice President and Dubai Ruler Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum also attended the meeting. Furthermore, senior diplomatic representatives discussed efforts to preserve regional stability amid rising geopolitical tensions across the Middle East.
During the official talks, the leaders jointly condemned recent hostile attacks targeting the United Arab Emirates. They also reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening mutual security frameworks and counter-terrorism measures.
Beyond immediate security concerns, the officials emphasized the importance of expanding long-standing bilateral relations across strategic economic sectors. In particular, discussions focused on increasing trade, private investment, and institutional cooperation between the two sides.
The UAE has maintained a Consulate General in Erbil since establishing diplomatic ties with Iraq in 2012. This diplomatic channel has facilitated cooperation on infrastructure initiatives and sustained high-level governmental coordination.
Recent bilateral engagements through consular channels have focused heavily on developing renewable energy infrastructure in the Kurdistan Region. For example, joint technical teams have been pursuing solar power generation projects aimed at improving the regional electricity grid.
These diplomatic efforts underscore the Kurdistan Region’s strategy of diversifying its energy sources while attracting foreign direct investment. Furthermore, stronger economic partnerships with Gulf countries could reinforce regional resilience amid broader geopolitical instability.
