Airstrike on PMF Base in Kirkuk Leaves Five Dead, 18 Injured

KIRKUK, Iraq – An airstrike targeting a base belonging to the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) in Kirkuk has left five people dead and 18 others injured, according to local officials.

Jawdat Asaf, the PMF spokesperson in Kirkuk, confirmed that the base was struck in the attack. Earlier reports had indicated that there were no casualties.

However, later updates revealed that the strike caused significant losses. Authorities said five people were killed and 18 others were wounded in the incident.

A source from Kirkuk Police had initially reported that six people were injured. Meanwhile, further assessments showed that the number of casualties was higher than first reported.

The Kirkuk PMF airstrike has raised concerns about the growing security tensions in the region. Officials have not yet confirmed the source of the strike or the party responsible.

Security forces launched an investigation following the incident. In addition, authorities are assessing the damage at the targeted base.

The Kirkuk PMF airstrike comes amid increased military activity and security incidents across parts of Iraq in recent days.

Meanwhile, officials urged calm as investigations continue and more details about the attack are expected to emerge.
