Duhok Accelerates Economic Diversification With Major Tourism Agriculture and Industrial Projects

Duhok governorate is undergoing a major economic transformation through a series of multi-sector developments. Regional authorities are actively steering funds into diverse commercial initiatives to reduce reliance on oil revenue. Consequently, local leaders are prioritizing long-term growth across tourism, agricultural, and heavy industrial domains.

Dr. Hawal Sadiq, the director of investment in Duhok, confirmed that government officials approved thirty major tourism ventures. Specialized engineering teams currently oversee construction on Zawa Mountain to build modern recreational facilities for international visitors. Additionally, developers are expanding facilities around the Duhok Dam to accommodate higher volumes of seasonal tourists.

Engineers are also constructing a cable car system connecting Sarsang subdistrict with the summit of Gara Mountain. Furthermore, agricultural planners are preparing a massive greenhouse complex in Semel to boost regional food security. This agricultural facility mirrors a highly successful greenhouse operation previously established in the neighboring Akre district.

In the industrial sector, regional investors are building the large Qasrok sugar factory within the Shekhan district. Furthermore, this processing plant will soon become one of the most prominent manufacturing facilities in Iraq. The facility will directly support local crop farmers while creating hundreds of technical jobs for surrounding communities.

Construction crews recently finished a major cattle and dairy project in Semel ahead of schedule. Subsequently, this facility now operates as the largest livestock and dairy production center in the nation. The enterprise distributes its fresh dairy products directly to markets across central and southern Iraqi governorates.

Management teams at the dairy complex actively prioritize native workers, employing ninety-six percent local youth staff. Overall, regional authorities have issued three hundred sixty-nine commercial investment licenses to developers since 2007. The current administration granted forty-five licenses in 2025 and eleven more during early 2026.

Officials fully expect to issue forty-five additional development licenses before the current calendar year ends. Dedicated technical committees systematically inspect every construction site to ensure strict compliance with spatial planning laws. Thus, rigorous regulatory standards guarantee that completed ventures deliver maximum economic value to local civil populations.

Looking ahead, these diverse Duhok strategic investment projects will continue driving job creation across northern territories. Government ministers view these private sector initiatives as essential building blocks for long-term regional stability. Ultimately, successful project completions will cement Duhok’s role as a primary commercial hub for the region.
