Duhok agricultural exports have reached nearly 120,000 tons this year, reflecting continued growth across the province’s farming sector. The shipments supplied markets throughout central and southern Iraq. Officials say the expansion supports farmers while strengthening the Kurdistan Regional Government’s agricultural development strategy.
The exported products include potatoes, vegetables, and other locally grown crops. Farmers transported the produce after completing quality inspections and packaging procedures. Consequently, consumers across Iraq gained greater access to fresh agricultural products from the Kurdistan Region.
Officials from Duhok’s Directorate of Agriculture said improving market access remains a leading government priority. They explained that stronger distribution networks have encouraged farmers to increase production. Moreover, better marketing opportunities have improved confidence across the agricultural sector.
Director General of Agriculture Ahmed Jamil said government support continues to create reliable markets for local producers. He noted that central and southern Iraqi provinces remain the largest destinations for Duhok’s agricultural products. Furthermore, quality control measures ensure exported crops meet commercial standards before shipment.
Local farmer Ibrahim Majid said his farm produces around 500 tons of potatoes each year. He explained that his harvest regularly reaches Baghdad, Basra, and many other Iraqi provinces. As demand remains strong, buyers purchase nearly the entire production each season.
Modern cold-storage facilities have also strengthened agricultural supply chains across Duhok Province. These facilities preserve crop quality while reducing post-harvest losses during transportation. Therefore, producers can deliver fresh products over longer distances without sacrificing quality.
Agriculture remains an important part of the Kurdistan Region’s economy. The sector creates thousands of jobs while supporting rural communities and local businesses. Additionally, government investment has encouraged farmers to improve cultivation methods and increase productivity.
