Duhok Opens First Advanced Closed Fish Farming System

Duhok has launched the first advanced closed-system fish farming project in the Kurdistan Region. This modern facility can produce 600,000 fish in each cycle and continue operations throughout the year. The system keeps production stable despite seasonal changes.

The project brings an important step forward for local aquaculture. It also tackles water scarcity issues that have affected many farmers in recent years. By using a closed system, the farm recycles water efficiently and reduces waste. This helps protect natural resources while ensuring steady fish growth.

Furthermore, the facility aims to increase production to 1,200 tons every year. This boost will support local markets and create new business opportunities for suppliers and workers. It will also strengthen food security in the region.

In addition, the advanced technology allows better control over water temperature and quality. Farmers can monitor fish health closely and prevent many common diseases. This improves the survival rate of the fish and reduces production costs.

Local authorities believe this initiative will inspire more investment in sustainable farming. They also expect it to attract attention from neighboring regions looking for similar solutions. With this step, Duhok positions itself as a leader in modern aquaculture.
