The Barzani Charity Foundation (BCF) has launched a major initiative focused on education support for orphans across the Kurdistan Region. This new project aims to provide tuition, transportation, and school supplies to children who have lost one or both parents.
BCF President Musa Ahmed announced the initiative during a special ceremony in Erbil. He reaffirmed the foundation’s ongoing mission to uplift vulnerable communities through education and care. With strong words, he credited the success of BCF to the guidance of Masrour Barzani, Chairman of the Foundation’s Board, and the unwavering generosity of local investors and philanthropists.
Ahmed revealed that BCF has already invested $81 million in educational programs targeting orphans, locally known as “Azizan.” These funds have supported over 20,000 children so far. The new campaign is designed to reach even more students and expand services across rural and urban areas alike.
“This is not just a charity program,” Ahmed explained. “It is a vital step forward in delivering real education support for orphans who deserve every chance at success.”
Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Minister of Education Dr. Alan Hama Saeed welcomed the project enthusiastically. He described the BCF as a beacon of hope and praised its direct role in transforming the education system. The minister said the foundation has renovated schools, added classrooms, and consistently provided materials where government support alone wasn’t enough.
“This initiative fits perfectly with our vision to improve the entire education sector,” Dr. Saeed stated. He stressed that strong partnerships between the government, civil society, and private donors have become crucial to building educational capacity in the region.
BCF’s new drive arrives during a time of heightened pressure on public services in the Kurdistan Region. Growing numbers of internally displaced people and refugees continue to strain schools and other infrastructure. Despite these obstacles, BCF’s leaders say their mission will not slow down.
The foundation has already laid out plans to expand the project in coming months. Organizers hope to reach more underserved communities and ensure that no child is left without access to schooling. Volunteers and partners are already mobilizing resources to support this next phase.
The campaign reflects a broader vision for a stronger, more inclusive education system. Through determined leadership, community backing, and tireless effort, BCF is setting a new example of what can be done.
