A dangerous heatwave is gripping the Kurdistan Region, with meteorological agencies warning that salary earners should avoid the heat during daytime hours. Starting today, temperatures are rising rapidly across several areas and are expected to reach extreme levels.
Forecasts from the Kurdistan Region’s Directorate of Meteorology and the national weather team show that the heat will continue to intensify. By tomorrow, the temperature is expected to hit 50 degrees Celsius in some southern provinces.
Due to the extreme heat, the Ministry of Transportation has urged public employees and other citizens to plan their activities more carefully, especially when accessing salaries from ATMs.
Dilan Rashad, spokesperson for the Ministry of Transportation and Communication, gave a clear warning. He recommended that salary earners should avoid the heat and use ATMs during the evening or nighttime hours. This helps protect people from the dangerous midday sun and lowers the risk of heat-related health problems.
He emphasized that temperatures will remain dangerously high for the next three days, so extra caution is necessary.
At the same time, weather expert Sheikh Dara explained that the heatwave will likely last for two days. The hottest area in the Kurdistan Region will be Garmiyan, with temperatures reaching 47.4 degrees Celsius. In contrast, the coolest spot will be Haji Omaran, which usually experiences lower temperatures due to its elevation.
The Meteorology Directorate has also warned that the 50-degree mark will likely be recorded in several southern provinces, including Maysan, Basra, and Kirkuk.
Health and safety officials are advising people to limit outdoor activity during peak hours, especially from noon to late afternoon. Staying indoors, drinking plenty of water, and avoiding direct sunlight are all key steps to staying safe.
