Erbil Air Defense Intercepts Seven Drones Amid Rising Regional Security Threats

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Air defense systems intercepted seven drones over Erbil late Sunday night, with no damage or casualties reported.

According to available information, the drones targeted Erbil’s airspace within a short time frame. The attacks occurred between 10:20 p.m. and 11:00 p.m., lasting less than an hour.

Security forces responded quickly to the threat. Defense systems successfully shot down all incoming drones before they could reach their أهداف. In addition, officials confirmed that the interceptions prevented any material or human losses. Authorities described the situation as controlled despite the intensity of the incident.

Furthermore, the attacks came amid a broader pattern of escalating security threats. On the same night, two additional drones targeted Koya, specifically near Camp Azadi. At the same time, officials continue to monitor developments closely. They have increased alert levels across key areas to prevent further incidents.

Data indicates a sharp rise in such attacks in recent weeks. Since the start of tensions linked to the Iran–Israel conflict on February 28, the Kurdistan Region has faced hundreds of drone and missile strikes. According to reported figures, at least 659 drones and missiles have targeted the Region during this period. This highlights the growing security challenges facing the area.

Authorities stress the importance of maintaining strong defense capabilities. They also call for continued coordination with partners to ensure stability.

While Sunday night’s attacks caused no damage, officials warn that ongoing threats remain serious and require constant vigilance.
