The Erbil Governorate announced excellent news regarding a massive infrastructure development on Sunday. Specifically, the strategic Korre–Shaqlawa–Qandil Road Project has now reached an advanced stage. Furthermore, the construction crews expect to finish the entire project ahead of schedule. This impressive development includes the vital Mirawa and Mawaran tunnels.
According to an official statement, workers are making rapid progress. They continue to advance steadily toward full completion. Prime Minister Masrour Barzani originally ordered this major project. He launched the plan under the Ninth Cabinet’s development agenda. The regional government wants to modernize the local road network. Additionally, they want to improve transportation infrastructure across the region.
The Governorate allocated a budget of 95 billion dinars for the work. Moreover, local laborers and national engineers handle all the construction tasks. Domestic companies manage the operations completely. The teams follow international engineering standards and specifications very closely.
The extensive project features a 10-kilometer dual carriageway. It also delivers the strategic Mirawa and Mawaran tunnels. Furthermore, the project includes three modern overpasses and underpasses. These structures meet international traffic safety standards perfectly.
Officials state that the work progresses smoothly every day. Therefore, the teams will achieve completion before the original deadline. After completion, the new highway will greatly enhance regional transportation. It will actively reduce travel times for thousands of drivers. Additionally, it will improve road safety for everyone. The highway will also facilitate easier access for both local residents and tourists.
This initiative supports the government’s broader regional infrastructure strategy. The cabinet prioritizes major road networks to boost economic growth. Meanwhile, authorities are executing several other strategic highway projects. For example, crews are building the 48-kilometer Erbil–Koya Dual Carriageway. This specific project costs 683 billion dinars. It will successfully reduce travel time to around 27 minutes.
Similarly, workers are constructing the 40-kilometer Kalar–Darbandikhan Road. This project requires 591.86 billion dinars. It connects Warmawa to the Darbandikhan Tunnel. Finally, the 35-kilometer Dukan–Chwarqurna Dual Carriageway will improve transit links further. This final project costs 260.699 billion dinars.
