Erbil Hosts Trilateral Economic Summit to Boost Regional Trade and Investment

Erbil is hosting a major trilateral economic summit this week. The event brings together business leaders from three key nations, specifically officials from the Kurdistan Region, Türkiye, and Azerbaijan.

The summit aims to deepen commercial ties across borders. Furthermore, organizers want to encourage strong private-sector partnerships. The event strengthens Erbil’s position as a vital trade gateway, linking Iraq directly with neighboring commercial markets.

The Erbil Chamber of Commerce and Industry carefully designed this summit. Therefore, the discussions will advance regional economic cooperation. Attendees will also improve coordination in logistics and cross-border trade.

Between 250 and 300 business executives are expected to attend. Additionally, many economic stakeholders and senior officials are participating. This high attendance reflects growing interest in regional commercial engagement.

Azerbaijan is currently showing increasing interest in the Kurdistan Region. Thus, the summit provides an excellent opportunity for practical cooperation. Organizers prefer direct commercial connections over political dialogue. As a result, the event is expected to generate new investment projects and foster long-term industrial partnerships.

Manufacturing and industry feature prominently on the official agenda. Specifically, participants will explore foreign investment in productive sectors. The Kurdistan Region is actively diversifying its economy beyond hydrocarbons. Therefore, it is promoting value-added industries to create sustainable employment.

The event structure goes far beyond simple discussions. For instance, the first day focuses entirely on networking. Delegations will share presentations to identify new commercial opportunities. Subsequently, the second day will feature extensive factory tours. International representatives will inspect local manufacturing facilities firsthand and visit historical sites around Erbil.

Meanwhile, local investment continues to grow rapidly. Authorities have issued 850 investment licenses across Erbil. In fact, nearly 50 licenses were granted in early 2026. This pace shows sustained confidence among international investors.

Erbil’s current investment portfolio spans 11 diverse sectors. However, officials give strategic attention to industry, tourism, and agriculture. These sectors effectively diversify economic activity. Investment is also expanding into education and healthcare projects. Ultimately, the region aims to establish a highly resilient economy.
