EU Condemns Drone Strikes Targeting Masrour Barzani’s Office and Security Chief’s Residence in Pirmam

The European Union Delegation to Iraq has issued a strong condemnation following recent drone strikes in Pirmam. Representatives from EU member-state embassies joined Ambassador Klemens Semtner in expressing relief over the absence of casualties. Unidentified actors launched explosive drones toward the private office of Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Monday. Simultaneously, another strike targeted the residence of the regional Security and Intelligence Agency chief. Official sources confirmed that these reckless acts of aggression threaten stability across the country. Consequently, European authorities reaffirmed their strong commitment to supporting Iraqi peace and long-term economic prosperity.

Preliminary reports from the Kurdistan Counter-Terrorism Service revealed that attackers deployed Iranian-made Hadid-110 explosive drones. Furthermore, security personnel immediately launched thorough investigations to assess structural damage around both targeted sites. Pirmam has long served as an important administrative hub for key regional political institutions. Therefore, deliberate strikes against senior officials represent a significant escalation in local security threats. Security analysts emphasize that targeting senior officials deliberately undermines governmental authority across the Kurdistan Region. Meanwhile, technical teams continue collecting debris to determine the precise origin of the assault.

In an official letter, Ambassador Semtner emphasized that diplomatic initiatives remain crucial for national security. Furthermore, European diplomats described violent actions against government institutions as completely unacceptable. EU leaders continue encouraging the regional government to bring all armed groups under state control. Subsequently, unified security structures could help reduce unlawful militia operations throughout the region. Local political commentators believe that disarming unauthorized armed groups could better protect public infrastructure from future attacks. In addition, international observers urge political actors to prioritize peaceful dialogue over military retaliation.

These hostile actions directly disrupt ongoing efforts by Iraqi officials to maintain regional neutrality. In recent months, local authorities have worked to shield the country from broader external conflicts. Nevertheless, foreign-made drone technology poses a persistent threat to fragile regional security frameworks. Security experts highlight that non-state actors increasingly use unmanned aerial vehicles to project military power. Consequently, European partners could strengthen security cooperation and intelligence sharing with local forces. Overall, key stakeholders must cooperate to prevent further escalation and maintain long-term regional political stability.
