A senior official from the Kurdistan Democratic Party criticized lawmakers who continue to boycott parliamentary sessions. He stated that these lawmakers violate their constitutional duties. Furthermore, he emphasized that restoring parliamentary activity must happen first. This step allows political leaders to form the next government cabinet.
Kamal Kerkuki serves as the Head of Public Relations for the Kurdistan Democratic Party. On Sunday, Kerkuki sharply condemned the members who refuse to attend sessions. He urged these politicians to return to the chamber immediately. Additionally, he demanded that they return without setting any prior conditions. This return will finally launch the constitutional process for the new government.
During a press conference on Sunday, Kerkuki noted that these lawmakers already took their legal oath. However, they still fail to fulfill their daily parliamentary responsibilities. Therefore, their ongoing absence directly contradicts their sacred oath. Kerkuki asserted that these boycotting members remain accountable to God and the people.
Consequently, Kerkuki urged the lawmakers to break free from their party restrictions. He advised them to vote according to their own personal convictions. Moreover, he stated that the sequence for government formation cannot change. Political leaders must reactivate the parliament before they take any other steps.
According to democratic rules, the winning political party deserves the first chance to form a cabinet. The Kurdistan Region Presidency Law gives this leading party exactly one month to succeed. If they fail, the official mandate passes to another political party.
Currently, efforts to establish the new cabinet face a total impasse. Nearly two years have passed since the citizens voted in the parliamentary elections. Yet, the main political parties still disagree on a final coalition. The Kurdistan Democratic Party won the most seats during the election. Thus, the party claims the constitutional right to lead the next government.
Ultimately, the President will assign the largest bloc to form the cabinet. Kerkuki reiterated that reviving parliament remains the only way forward. This crucial step will finally end the long political deadlock.
