Korek Telecom Challenges Regulatory Measures and Seeks Full Service Restoration

Executive leadership at Korek Telecom has challenged regulatory sanctions, describing the official operational restrictions as politically driven interventions. Managing Partner Sirwan Barzani declared that recent judicial decisions require the immediate resumption of the company’s operations nationwide. Furthermore, he emphasized that federal authorities owe substantial financial debts to the telecommunications company.

Former administrative committees previously reviewed these complex regulatory disputes and issued official findings in favor of Korek Telecom. Consequently, company representatives have refused to yield to what they characterize as illegitimate political pressure from federal regulators.

Regulatory enforcement measures have severely affected subscriber numbers across central and southern Iraqi provinces in recent years. Previous regulatory interventions reduced the company’s total network subscribers from more than seven million to 3.5 million nationwide. Currently, approximately 85 percent of active network users remain concentrated in the northern Kurdistan Region.

Nevertheless, previous expansion efforts into Baghdad quickly attracted more than one million new active accounts within several months. Company management confirmed that the latest binding court order legally requires regulators to reopen the company’s national communications network.

Parliamentary representatives from the Kurdistan Region have actively opposed regulatory decisions targeting the regional telecommunications provider. These representatives have defended consumer access rights while challenging regulatory actions in the federal parliament.

Meanwhile, company executives have reassured current subscribers about network stability and long-term service continuity. Barzani stated that telecommunications providers with international market credibility should never face arbitrary operational shutdowns. Looking ahead, Korek Telecom plans to enforce the judicial decisions and restore full nationwide mobile services.
