KRG Representative Urges U.S. Protection for Rojava Civilians

Treefa Aziz, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) representative to the United States, called for urgent protection of civilians in Rojava. She emphasized the escalating humanitarian crisis in Kobani amid military pressure and severe winter conditions.

Aziz said the city faces unprecedented challenges, including shortages of food, medicine, and heating supplies. She warned that without immediate international intervention, the crisis could lead to mass displacement and further suffering.

Moreover, Aziz highlighted ongoing U.S. efforts under the Trump administration to support Rojava communities. She praised Washington for attempting to stabilize the region and safeguard civilians. At the same time, she urged stronger coordination with local authorities.

In addition, the KRG representative stressed the symbolic importance of Kobani. She said the city represents Kurdish resilience and democratic self-governance. Therefore, attacks on the area threaten both human lives and regional stability.

Aziz also called on international partners to act decisively. She emphasized that political solutions and humanitarian aid must complement military measures. Consequently, she encouraged the U.S. and allied governments to strengthen protections and ensure safe access for aid workers.

Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts continue in Erbil and several European capitals. Aziz noted that these talks aim to reduce tension, de-escalate conflict, and provide practical support for civilians. She warned that delays could exacerbate the crisis.

Furthermore, she underlined the role of Kurdish communities abroad. Activism, advocacy, and humanitarian support have helped highlight Kobani’s plight on a global stage. Aziz said sustained solidarity can prevent further catastrophe.

Ultimately, she called for immediate action to protect civilians and uphold their rights. She stressed that Rojava’s safety depends on coordinated international responsibility.
