KRG Road Projects in Garmiyan Boost Connectivity and Growth

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) announced the completion of major infrastructure works in Garmiyan. The KRG road projects in Garmiyan include the construction of six bridges and extensive asphalting of roads. Officials said these projects will transform transport, trade, and village access across the region.

KRG Minister of Housing and Reconstruction Dana Abdulkareem confirmed that 27 road projects are active in Garmiyan. He highlighted the full completion of the Kalar–Darbandikhan road, calling it one of the most strategic projects in the region. “This road is now 100% complete and ready to serve the people,” he said.

The KRG road projects in Garmiyan have been central to regional development. Jalal Sheikh Nuri, supervisor of the Garmiyan Independent Administration, emphasized that the last two years brought major improvements to village roads. “Most projects are finished, and villages now have better access to services and markets,” he explained.

Garmiyan, located in the southern Kurdistan Region, covers Kalar, Kifri, and Darbandikhan. For many years, poor infrastructure limited growth and kept villages isolated. Roads connecting rural areas to main towns were often neglected. Now, with the KRG road projects in Garmiyan, these communities enjoy new connectivity and trade opportunities.

The KRG’s ninth cabinet has also expanded investment. According to the Kurdistan Board of Investment, nearly 45% of all licensed projects were carried out under the current government. Chairman Mohammed Shukri said investor-friendly policies, such as removing taxes and fees, helped attract over $12 billion in projects across 11 sectors.

This strong growth is supported by foreign and local partnerships. More than $5 billion came from joint ventures, highlighting international confidence in the region’s economy. Road projects, combined with investment incentives, show the government’s clear strategy for diversification and growth.

The completion of the Kalar–Darbandikhan road is now seen as a cornerstone for regional progress. It connects Garmiyan with other provinces and supports expanding agricultural and commercial activity. Together, these developments underline the KRG’s commitment to infrastructure and investment-led growth.
