Kurdistan PM Masrour Barzani Visits Family of Peshmerga Martyr After Iran Missile Strike

Erbil, Kurdistan Region – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani visited the family of Peshmerga martyr Weysi Akhar Saeed Sherwani in Soran. The visit came after his death from wounds sustained in an Iranian missile strike earlier this year.

The Prime Minister traveled to the Soran area to offer condolences to the bereaved family. He expressed deep sympathy and praised the sacrifice of the fallen Peshmerga fighter. Moreover, he stressed that the government stands firmly with the families of martyrs.

Weysi Akhar Saeed Sherwani died on April 7 after suffering critical injuries from the March 24 missile attack. Iranian ballistic missiles targeted Peshmerga positions in the Soran district during that strike. The attack killed several fighters and injured dozens more.

During the visit, Prime Minister Barzani conveyed greetings and support from President Masoud Barzani. He also listened to the concerns of the family members. Furthermore, he assured them that the government will continue supporting all affected families.

He emphasized that the sacrifice of Peshmerga forces represents a key part of the region’s defense history. Additionally, he noted that their service helps maintain security and stability in the Kurdistan Region.

The March 24 missile strike caused widespread casualties among Peshmerga forces in the Soran area. Six fighters died immediately, while around thirty others sustained injuries.

Authorities described the attack as a serious escalation in regional tensions. They also called for international attention to prevent further strikes on Kurdish positions.

Prime Minister Barzani reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the families of martyrs. He stressed that they will continue receiving care and assistance. Moreover, he highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen security and protect border areas.

The visit also reflected the leadership’s continued engagement with frontline communities. Officials said such visits reinforce solidarity between the government and security forces.

At the end of the visit, the Prime Minister offered prayers for the martyr. He also wished patience and strength to the family. The visit comes amid ongoing regional instability and repeated security challenges facing the Kurdistan Region.
