Kurdistan Minister Calls on Christians to Defend Representation Through the Ballot Box

Kurdistan Region’s Minister of Transportation and Communications, Ano Jawhar Abdulmasih, urged Christian citizens to participate actively in Iraq’s parliamentary elections to protect their community’s political representation. Speaking at a gathering in Erbil, he emphasized that every vote carries great significance in securing the voice and rights of the Christian population within the broader Iraqi framework.

He stated, “It is important for all Christians to go and vote for those who truly represent them.” The minister highlighted that active engagement in elections strengthens coexistence and reinforces Kurdistan’s model of religious harmony and pluralism.

Abdulmasih encouraged young voters in particular to take pride in their heritage and make their presence felt at the ballot box. He said that the Christian community has long played a vital role in shaping Kurdistan’s cultural and social diversity and that participation in elections helps ensure that legacy continues.

He also noted that the Kurdistan Regional Government remains committed to protecting minority rights and promoting equal participation across all communities.
