Kurdistan President Supports MyAccount Program

Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani officially endorsed the KRG’s MyAccount program. He personally registered for the system, highlighting the project’s importance for financial reform.

President Barzani met with the MyAccount team, led by Shilan Dosky, Head of Special Projects in the Prime Minister’s Office, and project supervisor Aras Salah. During the meeting, the President praised the young professionals behind the program. He also emphasized how MyAccount modernizes the Region’s financial system.

The MyAccount program aims to expand banking access for public employees and pensioners. By transferring salaries directly to individual accounts, it reduces reliance on cash payments. The system also strengthens oversight of public payrolls. More than 900,000 beneficiaries in the Kurdistan Region have already registered. This makes the initiative one of the largest financial reforms in recent years.

Furthermore, the program combats corruption, enhances fiscal transparency, and encourages savings and investment. Citizens benefit from greater control over their finances. Public employees can now access salaries securely and efficiently, avoiding the risks of cash handling.

MyAccount also fits into the KRG’s broader economic reform plan. The Region focuses on digitalizing government services, diversifying the economy, and integrating into the global financial system. The program strengthens banks by increasing deposits, improving financial literacy, and reducing the risks linked to cash circulation.

President Barzani’s personal registration gives the initiative political momentum and public visibility. His support signals strong leadership backing for further expansion. Authorities hope this step will inspire more citizens to adopt the program and encourage private-sector banks to improve services.

Experts say that the program could transform the Region’s economy over time. By connecting public salaries to formal banking, MyAccount promotes trust in the financial system. It also creates opportunities for loans, investments, and economic growth. In addition, it lays the foundation for future digital financial services in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region.

Overall, the MyAccount program demonstrates Iraq’s Kurdistan Region commitment to modern banking, transparency, and economic development. With strong leadership, ongoing adoption, and strategic reforms, the initiative could become a model for other regions seeking financial inclusion.
