Kurdistan Region Expands Roonaki Project With 24-Hour Electricity in Akre

Akre, Kurdistan Region – Local electricity authorities in Akre announced the launch of a 24-hour electricity system across all areas at the start of this month. The move marks a major step in improving public services and energy stability.

According to an official statement, the new system now covers the Akre city center and the sub-districts of Bijil, Dinarta, and Girdasen. In addition, all surrounding villages now benefit from continuous electricity supply. As a result, more than 42,205 residents receive uninterrupted power.

Officials confirmed that the project has already reduced reliance on private generators. Around 180 generators have stopped operating across the area. Consequently, air quality has improved, and environmental pollution has decreased significantly.

Moreover, authorities emphasized that this transition supports cleaner energy use. They noted that reducing generator use helps protect public health. Therefore, the project delivers both environmental and economic benefits.

To support citizens during the transition, the electricity department introduced temporary discounts. Residents will receive a 50 percent discount during the first month. The discount will then drop to 25 percent in the second month. In the third month, the reduction will reach 15 percent.

Officials explained that these discounts aim to ease the financial burden on households. They also encourage wider adoption of the new system. Furthermore, they stressed that affordability remains a key priority.

This initiative forms part of the broader Roonaki project. The Kurdistan Regional Government launched this program to deliver 24-hour electricity across all areas. Initially, the project started in parts of Erbil and Sulaimani. Later, authorities expanded it to additional regions, including Akre.

The main goal of the project focuses on modernizing electricity distribution. It also aims to reduce dependence on private generators. In addition, the system uses smart metering to improve efficiency and transparency.

Officials stated that the government continues to push forward with implementation. They expect full coverage across the Kurdistan Region by the end of the year. Therefore, all residents should benefit from continuous electricity soon.

Observers described the development as a significant improvement in public services. They noted that stable electricity supports economic growth and daily life. Moreover, reliable power enhances business activity and investment opportunities.

Authorities concluded by reaffirming their commitment to service improvement. They pledged to continue expanding infrastructure and ensuring reliable electricity for all.
