Erbil, Kurdistan Region – The Ministry of Electricity announced the relaunch of the e-payment system for electricity bills after completing major system upgrades. The service resumed on Sunday, April 12, 2026, allowing citizens to pay bills digitally once again.
The ministry explained that technical teams successfully transferred subscriber data into a new billing system. As a result, the e-payment platform now operates with improved efficiency. Moreover, officials confirmed that users can access the service without interruption moving forward.
This update forms part of the broader “Roonaki” project. The government designed this initiative to modernize electricity services across the Kurdistan Region. Furthermore, the project aims to improve service delivery and simplify billing processes through digital tools.
The ministry highlighted that the new system integrates all billing procedures into one unified platform. Therefore, users can now complete transactions faster and more securely. In addition, the updated system reduces errors and enhances transparency.
Prime Minister Masrour Barzani first introduced the e-payment initiative in February. He aimed to shift electricity payments toward a fully digital system. Consequently, the government seeks to reduce reliance on manual processes and improve convenience for citizens.
The Central Bank of Iraq approved the digital payment system. This approval ensures compliance with financial regulations and strengthens trust in the platform. Moreover, officials said the system supports broader financial modernization efforts.
The Ministry of Electricity encouraged citizens to use the platform regularly. They emphasized that digital payments save time and reduce congestion at payment centers. Additionally, the ministry plans to expand features in future updates.
Observers noted that the relaunch marks a key step in digital transformation. They highlighted the government’s focus on efficiency and service quality. Furthermore, they expect increased adoption as awareness grows among users.
The ministry concluded by reaffirming its commitment to improving public services. It also pledged to continue upgrading infrastructure and digital systems across the region.
