Kurdistan Showcases Model of Religious Harmony at European Parliament

Brussels — The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) highlighted its model of peaceful religious coexistence during a special session at the European Parliament, emphasizing the Region’s long-standing commitment to tolerance and unity among its diverse communities.

Speaking at the event, a KRG minister underlined the leadership of President Masoud Barzani in promoting inclusion and harmony across all faiths and ethnic groups. He stated, “President Barzani has always believed that the diversity of Kurdistan is its strength. If one component of Kurdistan feels unsafe, then all of Kurdistan is unsafe.”

The minister outlined how the Kurdistan Region continues to serve as a sanctuary for Christians, Yazidis, and other minorities fleeing violence in the Middle East. He also described how the government actively supports interfaith dialogue and protects cultural and religious rights through education and legislation.

Furthermore, European lawmakers praised the Kurdistan Region’s stability and its open approach to coexistence amid the wider regional turmoil. They also called for stronger ties between the European Union and the Kurdistan Region to promote peacebuilding and democratic cooperation.

The session concluded with a shared message: the Kurdistan Region’s inclusive social model demonstrates how respect and unity can overcome division and extremism, setting an example for the rest of the world.
