Kurdistan’s Economy Set for Recovery as Türkiye Resumes Flights to Sulaymaniyah

Kurdistan’s economy is expected to gain momentum after Türkiye officially lifted its flight ban on Sulaymaniyah International Airport. The reopening of air routes marks a major step toward restoring tourism, trade, and business connections between the two sides.

According to the airport administration, Türkiye’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation removed all previous restrictions, allowing airlines to resume operations immediately. This decision follows months of diplomatic discussions and technical coordination aimed at normalizing air travel.

Business leaders in Sulaymaniyah welcomed the move, describing it as a boost for the local economy. They noted that the resumption of flights will attract investors, facilitate trade, and reconnect families separated by the suspension. Tourism operators also expect a sharp increase in visitor numbers during the coming months.

Officials emphasized that the reopening will benefit not only Sulaymaniyah but also other areas of the Kurdistan Region. Improved air connectivity will support exports, reduce travel costs, and encourage new partnerships with Turkish and international companies.

The Kurdistan Regional Government praised the decision, highlighting that strong economic and transport ties with Türkiye remain vital for the region’s development. The restoration of flights signals renewed confidence in Kurdistan’s stability and its role as a regional hub for business and tourism.
