Kurdistan’s IHEC Finalizes Preparations for Sixth Parliamentary Elections

Erbil — The Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) announced the completion of all final preparations for Iraq’s sixth parliamentary elections, including readiness across the Kurdistan Region.

IHEC spokesperson Jumana Ghalai confirmed that all polling centers, electronic devices, and ballot materials have been fully tested and verified. She emphasized that candidates, political parties, and coalitions will have access to transparent monitoring systems, allowing them to verify both results and vote counts directly. “Each ballot includes a barcode that can be scanned through mobile phones, ensuring transparency and accountability in every step of the process,” Ghalai said.

She added that technical teams have completed the distribution of electoral materials to all governorates, while staff members received comprehensive training to manage the voting process smoothly. Additionally, IHEC established emergency response teams to handle any technical or logistical issues during election day.

Furthermore, Ghalai encouraged citizens to participate actively, stressing that high voter turnout would strengthen democracy and representation across Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. She assured the public that IHEC remains committed to ensuring a free, fair, and credible election process that reflects the people’s will.

The upcoming elections will determine 329 parliamentary seats nationwide, including 46 seats allocated to the Kurdistan Region.
