President Barzani Calls for Full Commitment to Federalism

President Masoud Barzani affirmed that the KDP holds no veto over any political alliance. However, he stressed that the party will only cooperate with groups that respect constitutional federalism. Moreover, he emphasized that Iraq needs clear agreements rooted in the Constitution to ensure stability.

Barzani made these remarks during his meeting with the UK Ambassador. He highlighted key constitutional articles that require full implementation. He pointed to the Oil and Gas Law as a crucial element for balanced power-sharing. In addition, he underscored the importance of establishing the long-delayed Federation Council. He said these steps strengthen Iraq’s political structure and protect the rights of all communities.

The president also noted that genuine partnerships depend on trust. He explained that this trust grows when all sides honor constitutional duties. Furthermore, he argued that federalism creates a stronger and more united Iraq. He encouraged political parties to approach negotiations with responsibility and transparency.

Transitioning to regional concerns, Barzani mentioned that unresolved issues weaken governance. He urged partners in Baghdad to treat constitutional commitments as binding obligations. Moreover, he stated that consistent cooperation supports stability, security, and economic growth.

The UK Ambassador welcomed the discussion and reaffirmed his country’s support for dialogue. Both sides agreed that Iraq’s next political phase requires cooperation and decisive action. They also highlighted the importance of protecting the constitutional status of the Kurdistan Region.

Overall, Barzani’s message focused on principles rather than positions. He called for alliances built on constitutional clarity and mutual respect. With steady engagement, he believes Iraq can move toward a more functional and fair political system.
