President Barzani Holds Talks with Rafi al-Issawi in Pirman

President Masoud Barzani met former Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Rafi al-Issawi on Sunday in the resort town of Pirman, holding wide-ranging talks on political and regional developments.

At the outset, both sides reviewed the current stage of Iraq’s political process. They exchanged views on post-election dynamics and the challenges facing government formation. President Barzani stressed the importance of dialogue and coordination among political forces to prevent further instability.

Meanwhile, al-Issawi highlighted the need for responsible leadership during the post-election period. He emphasized that political consensus remains essential for addressing economic pressures and security concerns. He also noted that delays in coordination risk deepening public frustration.

In addition, the meeting focused on relations between Erbil and Baghdad. President Barzani underlined the need to respect constitutional principles and agreements. He argued that constructive engagement offers the only viable path toward long-term stability.

The discussion also covered broader regional developments. Both leaders assessed shifting regional dynamics and their impact on internal politics. They agreed that regional tensions continue to influence domestic decision-making across the country.

Furthermore, the two figures addressed the role of national partnerships. President Barzani encouraged political actors to prioritize cooperation over rivalry. He stated that unity among key forces strengthens the overall political system.

Al-Issawi echoed this view and called for inclusive dialogue among all components. He stressed that political exclusion undermines governance and public trust. Therefore, he urged leaders to focus on shared interests.
