President Barzani Meets Outgoing Palestinian Consul General in Pirmam

Kurdistan Democratic Party President Masoud Barzani received Palestinian Consul General Dr. Maher Karaki on Saturday in Pirmam. The high-level meeting served as an official farewell following the completion of the diplomat’s assignment in the Kurdistan Region.

Consul General Karaki conveyed personal greetings from Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to the Kurdish political leader. The envoy also praised Barzani for receiving a prestigious papal award recognizing his contributions to interfaith harmony and peaceful coexistence.

During his tenure, the outgoing diplomat oversaw several initiatives supporting Palestinian citizens residing in northern Iraq. Karaki expressed his sincere appreciation to the regional authorities for providing financial assistance and educational opportunities to Palestinian students.

President Barzani acknowledged President Abbas’s warm message and reflected on the shared historical struggles of the Kurdish and Palestinian peoples. He also emphasized the legitimacy of the political rights and aspirations for self-determination of both peoples.

Relations between the Kurdistan Region and foreign diplomatic missions are part of broader efforts to strengthen international ties across the Middle East. Regional authorities have also worked to support expatriate communities by providing legal protections and access to educational opportunities.

Political and diplomatic engagement of this kind is important for maintaining regional stability, mutual cooperation, and constructive communication. Close coordination between diplomatic missions and regional institutions can also contribute to social cohesion and the continuation of educational and cultural programs.

Looking ahead, the Palestinian Authority is expected to appoint a new diplomatic representative to lead its consulate in Erbil. Both sides are expected to maintain their longstanding ties while seeking to expand educational, cultural, and political exchanges.
