President Barzani Supports Greater Federal-Kurdistan Coordination on Anti-Corruption

President Masoud Barzani received a high-level federal delegation in Erbil’s Pirmam district on Wednesday to discuss financial transparency. During the meeting, he formally pledged his full support for Iraq’s ongoing anti-corruption campaign. Federal Commission of Integrity Head Mohammed Ali Al-Lami led the visiting delegation alongside regional integrity officials. The meeting focused primarily on establishing joint mechanisms to prevent the systematic misuse of public assets nationwide. Furthermore, both sides discussed ongoing regulatory challenges that hinder accountability across public institutions.

During the meeting, Al-Lami outlined recent developments in the federal government’s nationwide anti-corruption campaign. He emphasized President Barzani’s historical influence in shaping modern governance structures in Iraq. Additionally, Al-Lami praised regional institutions for providing consistent logistical cooperation and administrative assistance to federal auditors. Regional Integrity Commission Head Ahmed Anwar also attended the meeting to help facilitate joint enforcement protocols. Together, the officials agreed that inter-provincial cooperation remains vital for tracking illicit financial transfers.

In response, President Barzani described the fight against financial corruption as a fundamental public duty. He assured the federal delegation that the Kurdistan Region would never serve as a safe haven for corrupt individuals. Consequently, regional law enforcement authorities will cooperate fully with federal judges in extraditing suspects facing financial charges. Barzani explicitly declared that no political entity or senior official should receive immunity from judicial prosecution. Furthermore, he insisted that anti-corruption authorities must maintain continuous oversight without facing arbitrary political interference.

Looking ahead, the two integrity commissions intend to establish joint supervisory committees to monitor high-risk government transactions. Federal auditors will work directly with regional specialists to audit municipal expenditures and cross-border customs operations. Meanwhile, parliamentary committees are preparing updated legislative proposals to strengthen judicial independence and protect whistleblowers nationwide. Citizens across the country now anticipate tangible progress as joint enforcement teams target systemic financial misconduct.
