President Masoud Barzani Congratulates Yazidis on Chileya Havîn festival

President Masoud Barzani congratulated the Yazidi community on Sunday as they celebrated Chileya Havîn, an important religious festival in the Yazidi faith. His message highlighted religious freedom, unity, and the importance of preserving Yazidi traditions across the Kurdistan Region and beyond.

Addressing Yazidi religious leaders, spiritual figures, and families, Barzani wished them a peaceful celebration filled with security, happiness, and prosperity. He also expressed hope that the community would continue enjoying stability in the years ahead.

The Kurdish leader concluded his message by extending holiday greetings and wishing everyone lasting goodness and peace. Overall, the statement reflected the Kurdistan Region’s continued support for its diverse religious and ethnic communities.

Chileya Havîn remains one of the most significant events on the Yazidi religious calendar. Every year, worshippers gather for prayers, religious ceremonies, and family celebrations. In addition, the festival helps preserve traditions and strengthens cultural identity among younger generations.

For many years, Barzani has consistently supported the Yazidi community through public statements and official meetings. He regularly stresses the importance of protecting religious freedom and safeguarding Yazidi cultural heritage. Moreover, he continues calling for equal rights for all communities across the Kurdistan Region.

Meanwhile, many Yazidis continue recovering from the 2014 attack on Sinjar by the self-proclaimed Islamic State group. Thousands of people lost their lives, while many others suffered abduction or displacement during the assault.

Several countries and international organizations later recognized those crimes as genocide. Consequently, Kurdish leaders continue urging greater international cooperation to assist survivors and rebuild affected communities.

Current reconstruction efforts also focus on restoring Sinjar and encouraging the safe return of displaced families. Furthermore, officials emphasize long-term stability, stronger public services, and better protection for religious minorities.

Barzani’s message therefore carried both symbolic and practical importance. It celebrated an important religious occasion while reaffirming continued support for the Yazidi community, peaceful coexistence, and Sinjar’s long-term recovery.
