President Nechirvan Barzani Extends Akitu Greetings to Chaldean, Assyrian, and Syriac Communities

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – President Nechirvan Barzani has extended his warm congratulations on the occasion of Akitu, marking the Babylonian-Assyrian New Year (6776), to Chaldean, Assyrian, and Syriac communities in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and around the world.

In his message, President Nechirvan Barzani highlighted the deep historical and cultural significance of Akitu. He described the festival as a reflection of one of the oldest and most authentic components of the region’s heritage. Moreover, he emphasized that Akitu represents an opportunity to reaffirm commitment to equality, rights, and freedoms. He stressed that these values remain central to the Kurdistan Region’s identity.

In addition, Barzani reiterated that the Kurdistan Region continues to serve as a model of coexistence. He noted that it remains a diverse homeland where different religious and ethnic communities live together in peace and tolerance. Furthermore, he underlined the importance of protecting the rights of all communities. He stated that maintaining harmony and mutual respect is essential for long-term stability.

At the same time, Barzani acknowledged the current regional tensions. He noted that celebrations this year are limited due to ongoing conflict in the wider region. Nevertheless, he expressed hope that the occasion would bring peace and comfort. He added that Akitu should serve as a source of unity and stronger coexistence among all communities.

President Nechirvan Barzani wished everyone a joyful and peaceful holiday. He expressed hope for continued harmony, stability, and shared prosperity in the years ahead.
