Erbil – Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani expressed deep sorrow over the passing of retired US Colonel Richard Nabb, describing him as a “true friend of Kurdistan” and a symbol of solidarity during one of the region’s darkest periods.
Colonel Nabb served in Operation Provide Comfort in 1991, a humanitarian mission launched after the Gulf War that protected hundreds of thousands of displaced Kurds fleeing persecution. His leadership and compassion left a lasting mark on the collective memory of the Kurdish people.
In his condolence message, President Barzani praised Nabb’s unwavering support for the Kurdish cause and his lifelong dedication to strengthening relations between the people of Kurdistan and the United States. “He stood with our people when we were most vulnerable, and we will always remember his courage and humanity,” Barzani said.
Officials across the Kurdistan Region also expressed gratitude for Nabb’s contributions, recalling his efforts to ensure aid delivery and security during a time of immense hardship. Many described him as an enduring bridge between the Kurdish and American peoples.
