Erbil, Kurdistan Region – Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani marked the 38th anniversary of the Anfal campaign in Garmian with a strong message on remembrance and justice. He described the campaign as a systematic attempt to eliminate an entire peaceful nation.

In his statement released on April 14, 2026, President Nechirvan Barzani stressed that the Anfal campaign was not a single crime. Instead, he said it represented a deliberate effort to erase the Kurdish people. He added that the effects of this tragedy still affect the nation today.
