Rawanduz Tourism Projects Advance as Soran Master Plan Enters Implementation Phase

Rawanduz is advancing major tourism and infrastructure projects. The Soran Independent Administration is implementing a long-term development strategy to strengthen the local economy and improve public services.

The projects aim to improve tourism facilities and essential services. They also seek to attract visitors throughout the year instead of relying mainly on seasonal tourism.

One major development is the Kawlokan Corniche project. It forms part of a wider tourism master plan for the area. The plan aims to improve facilities and create new destinations for visitors.

Rawanduz Mayor Ahmed Qadir said authorities have completed designs for several tourism destinations. Implementation has already begun on a number of planned projects.

He said completing the Soran tourism master plan could open a new phase of development. It could also improve access to important tourist destinations across the area.

Officials expect better infrastructure to attract thousands of visitors during different seasons. The projects could also support businesses and strengthen the local tourism economy.

The master plan covers destinations across Rawanduz, Soran, Choman, and other areas. All of these areas fall within the Soran Independent Administration.

Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani has emphasized tourism development. The strategy forms part of wider efforts to diversify the regional economy and attract new investment.

Authorities are therefore pursuing tourism projects alongside essential infrastructure. These services will support both residents and visitors.

Several service projects are also progressing in the area. One example is the Doli Akoyan Water Project, which could benefit dozens of villages.

Officials consider stronger infrastructure essential for tourism growth. Better services can also improve living conditions for local communities.

The tourism master plan also focuses on environmental protection. This is especially important across Rawanduz’s mountains, valleys, rivers, and scenic landscapes.

Specialists and foreign companies are supporting the planning process. Authorities aim to create modern facilities while protecting important natural attractions.

Rawanduz already attracts visitors because of its natural landscapes. However, officials say more infrastructure is needed to develop year-round tourism.

The planned projects could create opportunities for hotels, restaurants, transport companies, and tourism operators. Higher visitor numbers could also generate employment and increase demand for local services.

If implementation continues as planned, Rawanduz could strengthen its position as a major tourism destination in the Kurdistan Region. The strategy ultimately combines tourism investment, infrastructure development, environmental protection, and sustainable economic growth.
